They have a depth of 10".

A bandsaw flower jewellery box made of Elm

with a coloured Ash trumpet and stamen

The lid is held in place by magnets and due to

opposed polarities will only fit in place one way.

The inside is lined with black velvet.

The upper middle compartment is the bar!

It has its own light system with a mirror in the back...

All the drop down doors have brass hinges and brass sliding stays.

Every door is held in place by very strong rare earth magnets

that are hidden within the frames and doors giving the illusion

of each door just hovering in place when closed.

The bar light works with a contact switch

- when the door is closed the circuit is broken and the light is off,

when the door is open the circuit completes and the light comes on.

A new jewellery box - a gallery piece.

Made from reclaimed Mahogany and features 5 black

velvet lined drawers (the middle one has ring inserts),

and the outer panels have borders of inlayed Ash.

The feet and handles are solid brass to compliment the Mahogany.

An inlayed Memory Box of Utile,

with high quality brass hardware.

A close up of the inlaying and stringing, which is birch,

and the flowers have walnut centres.

There are two lift out trays, the upper one for jewellery or other precious items,

the second one is for paper, such as certificates or letters.

Brass quadrant hinges help make this piece (a commission) special.

It also has brass handles, feet and lock

This Memory Box is 35cm wide x 30cm deep x 20cm high.

It is for the parents of a baby girl to keep safe all her precious things as she grows up.

Then as she gets older she can use it for her own precious items and memorabilia.

Recently some of my artist friends have commented that

my Jewellery Boxes are too masculine (well Duh!).

So I've tried something new with this

bandsaw box in the shape of a flower.

The stamens are actually metal and there is a purple felt lining.

Short board on a wave trophies.

There are 4 winners trophies and 6 for runners up.

All made for the Newquay surf 7's national rugby

A hedgehog bandsaw puzzle jewellery box.

This amazing piece has over 800 spines!

To access the compartments inside pull

the hedgehogs' head away from its body...

...then lift up the body allowing it to pivot on its hinge...

...giving access to the small lift out tray and

inner compartment, both lined with black velvet.

An octagonal jewellery box made of Oak.

This one has a double barrel hinge and a magnetic catch.

It has pull out trays housed within it one full tray

and two half trays - and a hidden compartment within the base.

Each of the trays will fit into the recess on the lid,

so the user can take their time in selecting

the piece of jewellery they want!

The legs feature circular cut-outs highlighted with a black acrylic paint.

A turned bowl of Walnut that I have subsequently

pierced just to make it a little different.

This bandsaw box owl is a modified design from the first one I made.

This one has the same 3 breast drawers but whereas the previous model

had each eye pull out singularly, this one has both eyes as one drawer.

The detailing on this one is made from Oak, the beak is Wenge.

Approx 20cm high x 14cm wide x 11cm deep.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot!

The wings on this one move as well,

and the eyes are red jewel beads.

This bandsaw Dragon box is made of a single piece of Ash.

The 3 drawers were bleached to make them white,

they are held in place by rare earth magnets and make

a very pleased sound when they click into place!

A new design toy box - this one is much simpler - just the box

(no seat arms or backrest as with my other toy box design)

This one is made out of oak veneered MDF which I frame with Ash.

I've also decided to have 3 safety hinges on my boxes from on - super safe!

The box is of course still routed with the child's name.

The Double heart is joined by magnets so the

Walnut half can be separated from the Ash heart.

The single heart made of Ash, like the double heart

The dolphin has a single pull out drawer which

has a double compartment lined with black velvet.

The wings are from Ash, the body is Zebrano

and the antenna and 'eyes' are Pine.

This one is a bandsaw box made of Ash with 3 pull out drawers with

Bubinga drawer fronts. It kinda turned out as a dragon of sorts, but still cool!

A recipe book stand made from birch plywood faced with an Oak veneer.

This one has Celtic designs - a central cross and Celtic banding on the front of the Oak

book holder. To help secure the pages when being used a silver chain has been added.

It also features encouraging words down each side - "...tasty..." & "delicious!".

A snowboard shaped table commissioned for a welsh family

(hence the dragon!).

The 'snowboards' are held together by frosted glass shelves,

the top one has a 5 snowflake design on it to represent 'snow'.

The dragon was routed into the wood (ash) then coloured.

A Child's toy box made from ash in a frame and panel style.

This one was for Piran (who loves it!)

All Jimagination toy boxes are made with an inner lift out drawer to

stop smaller toys being lost in the bottom of the box, and are fitted with

safety hinges so that the lid cannot slam down on fingers or heads.

They also double as a seat with a personalised backrest and arms.

This one also features a slim book holder on each side.

This clock was turned on the lathe. The red is padauk the insert is oak. The numerals are plugs of zebrano and ziricote. The hands are metal. (I didn't do the engraved name and date plate!).

Just finished a new surfboard easy chair. The seat and back have been curved out for comfort -and it really is comfortable! It has also given it a really cool ring design.

Had a bit of a break over Christmas and the New Year, but back designing and creating again now!
'The Cowhouse Gallery' in Perranuthnoe is now closed until Mothers Day in March, but you can still catch my stuff in the 'Drift Gallery' at Hayle or in 'Random' at Bude.
Meanwhile here are some pics of my first few attempts at wood turning on a lathe! Its addictive, so there will be more!

This fist dish was my very first attempt at turning! Made from oak I rounded over the rim and undercut the underneath of the rim as well. I use a gas blow torch on the beading to get the burnt/black look. I am really pleased with this 1st attempt!

This bowl is made from plywood with 3 decreasing widths of ovangkol (the dark wood) starting at the edge and working inwards.

This bowl is made from Utile. I left the rim square and made the actual bowl quite bulbous as something different.

This is my latest creation, currently on show at the Cowhouse Gallery in Perranuthnoe. Inspired by stalagmites and columns (where stalagmites join with stalactites) and featuring an amythest crystal and 2 geodes (half egg minerals with crystal formations inside them).

Its actually a Pedestal Table, made from plywood with a birds eye maple veneer surrounding the geodes under a round glass top.

I am considering turning this into a new collection as oppossed to a one-off. I will see as this one was a heck of a lot of sanding (I don't have a lathe yet!).

A recently completed commission - a surfboard dining table! Seats 6 people (believe it or not!), finished with a plastic coating so the surface is resistant to water, alcohol, solvents, etc.

Due to lack of space in the clients flat the design had to be such that when not in use the whole table hangs on the wall out of the way, and just looks like a showcase surfboard. The legs which are steel make the table look like it is floating. The legs are housed in the rear of the board when in its space saving position. At the wall end the table snuggly fits into a dovetail plate that is fixed with screws into the wall.

I'll post better pics when the flat decorations have been completed!

So I have decided to promote my 'Surfboard Collection' of Jimagination Creations. These pics show some of the range being photographed in the Orca Publishing Studios, Newquay, ready to be put on the Carve website. I will also have an advert in 111 issue of Carve Magazine (out november 2009) - the leading selling surfing magazine in the UK! Woo-hoo! Hopefully that will raise the Jimagination profile!

Jimagination will be showing new Creations at an art & crafts show in Falmouth. Many of which will be available for purchase!

The show will be held ALL WEEK, from Monday July 13th to Saturday July 18th 2009, at the FALMOUTH METHODIST CHURCH (first floor), thats on Killigrew Street.

Signs will be outside advertising the show, which will also feature many other artists' work in a variety of other mediums.

I almost forgot about this commission! This bird table is multi-level. The black perspex roof is quite cool as depending on the differing light during the day it can appear to be either solid black or see through - so you can see the birds while feeding.

Here is the most recent Jimagination Creation - another Toy Box, but in a different style. This one is of a frame and panel construct. Again it doubles as a seat, has an inner lift out drawer for smaller toys, and a safety hinge that stops the lid falling down.

Children's toy chests can be very dangerous, with many toddlers injured every year from the heavy lids, this is why all the Jimagination Toy Boxes come fitted with a safety hinge that stabilises the lid in any open position.

I am currently making another toy box which will include the same features - the box doubles as a seat for the child to grow into; a removable inner drawer for smaller toys to stop them falling to the bottom of the box; a safety hinge to stop the lid slamming on heads, necks or fingers; personalised with the babies/child's name routed into the seat back rest - the design will be different though. I'll post pics when its done.

The owners of the toy box shown below say that it also makes the perfect baby change surface!
